Project Description:
The town of Marion’s Parks and Rec Department operates a senior citizens center for town and county residents to take advantage of meal services, recreational/social opportunities, and health education programs. The town has identified a need for the center to re-envision its services, perception across the community, and its ability to generate even modest revenue to help mitigate expenses incurred by the town to operate the center. With these changes, the Center will likely be relocated from its current facility to a combined, town-run recreation center for citizens of all ages. In partnership with two courses at Emory & Henry College, various research methods will be utilized to determine perceptions in community, barriers to usage, interests in services/programs offered at the senior center, and considerations the town should include when selecting a new facility. These findings were used to present a series of recommendations at the April 20, 2015 Marion Town Council meeting. |
